Surpass Hosting

99.9% of hosts try to offer everything, but the reality is, they tend to really specialize in one form of hosting and generally use smoke and mirrors to make it look like they are able to able to deliver on all fronts. But a very few put their hands up and admit that they are excellent at just one thing.

For example, WPEngine agrees quite literally the best hosting provider for WordPress hosting online today, bar none. We adore WP Engine. Another hosting provider that falls in the category is Surpass Hosting.

They only offer shared hosting (And a Reseller option) but boy do they do it well. In a very competitive marketplace, they are very quickly becoming one of our favorites. I think after reading this review, you might start to feel warm and fuzzy about them too.

Detailed Review of Surpass Hosting

Way back in 2002, Surpass Hosting was launched with one goal. To provide good quality affordable hosting with first class support. In this review, we’re going to take a look at whether, 15 years down the line, they’ve managed to achieve that goal.

Based out of Orlando Florida, the well respected Surpass Hosting is able to boast being the host of over 500,000 websites, which is no small number. They are a member of the HostDime network of hosting companies and has 2 of their own data centers in the center of Florida.

Surpass pride themselves on taking their own path and a good example of that philosophy being put into practice is the fact that they only focus on one specific form of hosting. That’s Shared Hosting. Most other hosting companies offer either dedicated servers together with their hosting packages, or possible VPS hosting. These days, it’s pretty common to get all 3. But not with Surpass, they’ve decided to stick to one thing and try to be the best at it. That’s Shared Hosting with a well-promoted reseller service to compliment it.

As we mentioned above, it’s this specialization that we like most. We are very much a believer in “Jack of all trades, master of none”. We prefer to work with masters. They have really focused on being good at delivering one form of hosting and it’s enabled them to stand out from the very noisy crowd of hosts all trying to get your attention.

If you’re looking for a solid host that offers different packages for businesses and entrepreneurs of all sizes then you’ll definitely find something that works for you, whereas with some of the high-performance oriented hosts you’ll likely not if you’re a smaller business that’s still scaling.

Surpass Features

Speed

The speed in which a page load is very important. It’s not just for show. In very real terms, different studies have shown at least 40% of people will click away from a website if it takes more than 3 seconds for a page to load. Can you afford to lose 40% of your audience?

So, 3 seconds is the basic standard, but the quicker you are then the less your audience is likely to drop off. Keep in mind that Surpass Hosting specialize only in Shared Hosting, so we’re talking about smaller sites, perhaps sites that have 20 or fewer pages. The good news is, they are tested at 1.12 seconds.

That’s a phenomenal speed for a Shared Hosting solution and can rival pretty much any hosting provider online. It’s got to be in the top 10 for speed across all hosting providers and probably in the top 3 for Shared Hosting. And with great pricing, I’d recommend Surpass every time.

Reliability

Surpass have been around the block a few times when it comes to offering hosting solutions, especially shared hosting. They haven’t wasted that experience. They’ve made mistakes and learn from them especially in terms of the hardware and software they now use in the datacenters.

Example of this is the power to their datacenters. They have independent power and even independent backup generators which mean their datacenters are not going to be affected by local power cuts.

They are right up there at 99% uptime. Which is becoming the norm for serious hosting providers, the difference is, these figures are not just pie in the sky, they genuinely keep their servers online pretty much all the time, which gives clients peace of mind.

Customer Support

You have to appreciate that there are a lot of hosting providers vying for your business, and all in all, you get looked after. Suprass are no different. Their customer service is not terrible but we think it’s the one area that could be better, especially when compared to others out there.

They offer an online chat option and have a ticketing system they call their Online Helpdesk. They feel that there’s no need to have a direct dial phone number, so they don’t bother. But it means that you rely on email or chat and generally speaking if you are not making contact at the right time you’re going to have to wait hours. For some customers that wait represents lost revenue.

Others out there, for example, one of our absolute favorites SiteGround, offer 24/7 live chat, Phone numbers, knowledge base, and Ticketing. They go the extra mile and it’s really appreciated. If I were on the Surpass boardroom it would be the one suggestion I would make.

Conclusion

“A good hosting option for people that plan to scale and want to stay with one host!”

So, the summary of Surpass Hosting is pretty easy. Awesome speed. Really good reliability, and very average customer support. Their customer support isn’t bad, it’s just there are a lot better. If you don’t mind waiting 12 or so hours to get your problem resolved then you shouldn’t be concerned about it. But if being off line 12 hours or more is something that can really affect your business or revenue then you should look at something like SiteGround or WPEngine, depending on the type of website you want to host.

You should want a hosting provider that’s been around for a while and has a lot of clients. It means they know what they’re doing and they are not going to learn from their mistakes, with you. That’s what you get with Surpass.

All in all, we give Surpass a big thumbs up. They focus on Shared Hosting and don’t really offer anything else besides a really decent Reseller offer. The dedicated server package and VPS are actually something the promote on behalf of other providers, so it means day to day they are focused just on their shared hosting clients. Which makes a refreshing change.
